Stilton Heritage is a new village charity interested in Stilton’s past. We plan to collect and improve local knowledge on our heritage and share it with both young and old. We shall work with the village to explore our past and preserve records for future generations. We registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2024 with the aim of being “for the public benefit to advance the education of the public in the history and heritage of the village of Stilton and the surrounding area by the establishment and maintenance of a museum for the collection and display of items, especially those which are relevant to the history of the district.” We are currently negotiating with the Parish Council to lease the Parish Room as our Heritage Centre where we can archive and display local heritage material. We hold monthly meetings (usually on the second Thursday of each month) with speakers on topics of local interest.
We plan the Centre to be, not just an archive of Stilton’s history, but an educational resource for young and old as well as a social hub for those interested in Stilton’s past. We are looking for a wide membership involving all those interested in our history and heritage. So please join us if you are interested.
